Our Town
Wayne county is approximately 52 miles southeast of Raleigh,
the state’s capital and about 75 miles west of the Atlantic Ocean.
Goldsboro offers a climate of mild winters along with
sunshine-filled summer days, which allows for golf, and many other
recreational activities to be 12-month sports.
Today, Wayne County continues to grow and prepare for the Future.
By creating industrial and business parks, by building new
schools and manufacturing facilities, and by participating in regional
marketing efforts, Wayne County is poised to remain a community of
progress.
Indeed, Wayne County is the proud home to Seymour Johnson Air
Force Base.
Seymour
Johnson Air Force Base is the home to the 4th Fighter Wing. They have received the Commander in Chief’s Installation
Excellence Award - Air
Force for 2001, the highest award given to a military base. Seymour
Johnson Air Force Base is an Air Combat Command
installation named in honor of Navy Lieutenant Seymour Andrew Johnson,
a native of Goldsboro, North Carolina, who was killed in an aircraft
crash near Norbeck, MD March 5, 1941.
